Working dads are often misunderstood as being less dedicated to their families, but the reality is that they are just as committed to their careers as anyone else. In fact, 76% of working dads aspire to be promoted to positions of greater responsibility, and 58% desire to move into senior management. This generation of fathers works as hard and for as many hours as prior generations, facing at least as many financial pressures and a world with less job and financial security than dads who have come before. Despite these challenges, working dads are driven to provide for their families and make a positive impact in their communities.
Today's dad is shouldering more family responsibilities than ever before. They spend triple the time caring for their children and do twice the housework compared to fathers of a generation ago. In fact, 65% of dads see their role as both provider and caretaker, and 85% aspire to fully sharing parenting with their spouses (although only about 30% report that they do so). This shift in responsibilities is a significant change from the traditional breadwinner role that dads have historically held, and it's a testament to the evolving nature of fatherhood.
However, working dads face significant challenges in balancing their work and family responsibilities. Men who adjust their work for family are often seen as insufficiently committed to their work and "unmanly, slouch," facing stigma and career consequences. Read Part 2
